Unhappy Please say this wasn't a Guild Wars player...

...I guess the story jumped out at me because of the reference to the Chinese New Year weekend, and the corresponding Canthan New Year celebrations that were held in-game. Since GW starts to scold you after two hours, I'm hoping people would play responsibly. Stuff like this scares the living bejesus outta me.

Its a sad case indeed but certainly not the first time things like this happened :s

Its a shame people become so lost or embedded in these things that they even disregard there own health both physical and mental.

Then again though this has happened even before we had internet to where it is now. An example is that old story of how 2 people way back in the day after playing so much Dungeons and Dragons straight in there delerium deside to reinact the D&D session in real life and lives were lost due to stabbings and such...

This is as likely to be a player of any other game as Guild Wars. He lived in China- i expect celebrations are held in most MMO's over there for the Lunar new year (correct me if i'm wrong)

Cases like that are so sad to read about. They certainly frighten me as well, Tanith.

It's sign telling you to get off your lazy bum and go outside. I know, outside, crazy.

This kinda got me thinking of an expansion so-to-speak of the "Scolding" XD. Not a suggestion, just a funny/lame thought I had.

New Condition:
1st hour: character receives a message, "You have been playing for 1 hour"
2nd hour: character receives a message, "You're still playing after 2 hours"
3rd hour: a little green diamond appears and rotates above the character. Character *yawns* and says, "I've been at this for 3 hours straight"

Global Malnutrition: Affects all players. After 4..8 hours of gameplay, since logging in, player movement speed, attack speed, energy, and health are decreased by 5..40%. Skill/spell cast/recharge times increase by 5..40%. Condition is applied in explorable areas, but counts in towns/outposts. It is not DP; it cannot be removed via candy canes. It is applied after dp/morale bonuses. After 8 hours, character zones towards nearest outpost visited by character, GM condition ends, and Sleep enchantment is applied. Condition can be removed by logging out and back in. It is not removed by switching characters and switching back.

Sleep: For ten minutes, character lies on the ground where they spawn (in an outpost or town) and is unable to do anything. Occasionally a "zzz" will appear above in a dialogue box. This enchantment is removed only by logging out and back in. It is not removed by switching characters and switching back. When sleep ends, player is recharged and brought back to normal.

Makes you wonder how you can ever sit there and play any game for 7 days straight... whether you like it or not.

RIP Gamer who played too much!

I wonder if future games would have a built-in code that shut down the game after certain hours?

Doubt it...imagine if your sitting their playing a game for a few hours, in the middle of mission in a campaign, and bam it shuts off. No save, would kinda blow.
